Who we are

Crabgrass is a Vancouver string band that takes its name from the plucky weed that just won’t quit, marrying traditional bluegrass and country with folk, blues and jazz standards. From Bill Monroe to Leonard Cohen to Duke Ellington, Crabgrass draws on an eclectic song list featuring vocal harmonies by Kerry Richardson (guitar, mandolin) Maurice Bridge (guitar, mandolin) and Gary MacDonald (bass), backed by Lewis Silberberg (acoustic lap-steel, Weissenborn and Dobro slide guitars) and the inimitable Val Dean (violin).

A woman with curly blonde hair, glasses, and a beige hat plays an acoustic guitar and sings outdoors during a gathering or festival, with a double bass behind her and people sitting and walking in the background under trees.
